WHAT ARE AMENITIES?

Amenities are products for your guests’ usage when staying at your AirBnB, guest house or hotel. These are products such as body lotion, room spray or insect repellent. Guest amenities also form part of your basic bathroom essentials, such as soap, shampoo, bath/shower gel. Other amenities include helpful and convenient items such as toiletries, robes, slippers and beach towels. Lastly, snacks/beverages such as tea, coffee, chocolate and rusks also form part of amenities.

WHAT IS EXPECTED TO BE COMPLIMENTARY?

Every establishment is different and therefore, it is up to you what would like to offer your guests complimentary. Here is a rough guideline to help you navigate what is expected from your guests.
All basic amenities such as soap and shampoo are expected to be free of charge.

  • Some more luxury guesthouses offer snacks and beverages like chocolate, rusks, tea, coffee, and even sometimes a bottle of wine free of charge! 
  • Some self-catering cabins, hidden in the middle of nowhere, need not to even offer basic amenities at all as those guests go for the “off the grid experience”. 

So, depending on what type of establishment you have, depends on which guest amenities you will most likely need to offer. At the end of the day, what you offer is all up to you, as long as it suits your establishment. 


WHAT ARE YOUR GUESTS ARRIVAL EXPECTATIONS?

Guests have a certain level of expectations for their arrival, all depending on where they are staying. 

A 5 star hotel requires a certain level of high quality products, food and friendly, helpful staff to attend to guests every need. A self-catering, secluded farm cottage has different requirements. Here your guest will want to have self check in and to be met with serene silence and peacefulness. Here, fewer amenities are expected, but having essentials like dental and shaving kits can make a massive impact on guest experience, as it might be a long drive to civilization!
